A massif that climbs far higher than it spreads, its summit a stone spear piercing the clouds.

Raised: c. 5,000 years before year zero (First Age), by Atlas.

Story

Atlas raised Sky Spear Mountain — terribly steep, far taller than it is wide. In the same years Svarog tapped a spring inside it and loosed the Slithering River; Atlas answered by opening the other side, and a sister river ran away into Svarog’s arid land and over the rim of World’s Breach. Around 4,000 years before year zero Atlas raised hills beside the Eternal Steppe, reaching toward it.

Around 3,000 years before year zero the Stone Talus stood between the hills and the mountains. At Atlas’s command lightning gathered at the spear-tip and struck the Talus, and the pieces that fell became proto-dwarves — the Dwarves, who went to live inside Sky Spear. Astralis seeded Star Metal into its rock; the dwarves can see it like anyone else, but they also feel it glinting in the fissures, one reason they never left. Above the deposit they built Kharag Duun (c. 2,000 years before year zero), and around year 100 the Talus raised the Magical Forge there, fed with magma from the mountain’s depths.

Around year 400 Atlas made the Harpies in the south of Sky Spear.

At the end of Age III the Third Meteor struck the mountain slopes beside the Ballista’s city (Heart of the Plains) and tore the glaciers off the highest peaks on the continent. Sky Spear’s ancient ice split and drained, and the mountain became porous — tunnels and caverns open where none were.

Now

Suddenly porous, with tunnels open that no one has walked, and who knows what lives in them. Kharag Duun stands inside, walled twice over.
