Story
Sylvanus grew jungle on the great southern island c. 4,000 years before year zero, and some thousand years later, c. 2,000 years before year zero, finished it: all of it jungle.
The lizardmen. Around year 100 Atlas made the Lizardmen here in Sylvanus’s jungles — evil, wholly tribal, ruled by Atlas’s First, nobles who each killed every sibling from their own clutch of eggs. Sylvariel slipped among them and founded the Arcane Fang, usurpers of magic who want every crystal for their sons. Around year 200 Sylvanus gave them a “city” — not a city but a chain of jungle villages, a civilisation of the Amazon. In the same years the Frost Genasi arose on the island amid the ice floes that bridge Jungle Island and the mainland, and Sylvanus opened the Underdark in the south.
The war camps. Around year 630 the lizardmen took up arms (Sylvanus) and the Hollow Knight raised them a second army (Atlas). Sylvanus sent them through the Underdark against the Tree of Life; the Grove’s misdirection held, its assassins killed their chiefs, and the lizardmen turned on each other. The Hollow Knight built them a second war camp (the camps are L1 and L2 on the map), and they split into two warring factions around the Underdark mouth. Sylvariel raised a water elf army against them.
The mouth taken. Around year 640 Elyndra gathered an army to open a front against the lizardmen; she and the water elves together took Jungle Island’s Underdark mouth. The lizardmen were broken but not destroyed.
Now
The island’s war camps still stand, and the lizardmen are split in two and at war with each other; the elves hold the island’s Underdark mouth. Across the water, the remnants of the two armies that went through the Underdark camp at the mainland mouth, fighting each other.
